How it works

Three steps to your estimate

01
Measure the area

Length times width in feet, or add up each section to a total square footage.

02
Choose your depth

Most decorative pebble layers sit 1 to 2 inches deep; deeper for full ground cover.

03
Read your bags

The calculator converts area and depth into the number of bags needed.

Common Questions

Pebble Coverage Calculator FAQ

How deep should pebbles be?+
For decorative coverage, 1 to 2 inches is typical, and for full ground cover that hides soil, plan on 2 to 3 inches. Adjust the depth in the calculator to match the look you want.
How many bags will I need?+
Enter your area and depth and the calculator returns the number of bags, based on standard 0.5 cubic foot bags. Round up to be sure of full coverage.
Should I add extra?+
Yes, add 5 to 10 percent extra to allow for uneven ground and settling. A small overage keeps coverage even without a second order.
Can I calculate by length and width?+
Yes, switch to the length-times-width mode and the calculator works out the area for you. From there it returns the bags you need automatically.
