Pebble Coverage Calculator

Pebbles pour to a depth, so the bag count follows the volume, not the area alone. Enter your area and how deep the fill runs, and this works out the bags.

Area and depth

What are you filling?

Length by width, and the depth from ground to the finished surface.

Length (ft)
Width (ft)
Or area directly (sq ft)
Depth (in)
Bag size

When you pick a product above, its own bag size takes over. Two inches of depth hides the ground; deeper pours hold the stones in place better.

An estimate, not a quote. Confirm final quantities with our team before ordering. Add five to ten percent for uneven ground.

How it works
1

Measure the area

Length by width of the bed, path or pot cluster. An irregular bed can be entered directly as square feet.

2

Choose the depth

Two inches covers the ground fully. Three holds better underfoot and in wind. The listed coverage on any bag assumes a depth, which is why this asks for yours.

3

Round up to bags

Volume divided by the bag's cubic feet, rounded up. A 40 lb bag holds half a cubic foot; a 30 lb bag holds four tenths.

Talk to Our Team
How deep should the pebbles go?+
Two inches is the minimum that hides the ground completely. Paths and anywhere feet or wind reach are better at three, which raises the bag count by half.
Why does the bag list a coverage that differs from this?+
Printed coverage assumes one depth, usually two inches. This calculator works from the volume of your actual depth, which is the honest figure.
Should I put anything under the pebbles?+
A landscape fabric stops the stones sinking into soil and keeps weeds from threading up through them. It also makes any future re-levelling far easier.
How much extra should I order?+
Five to ten percent. Ground is never perfectly level, and the edges of a bed always take more stone than the middle suggests.

Now find the stone.

Polished and natural pebbles by the bag, in the colours the landscape actually uses.
