How many acoustic panels do I need?+
The calculator works out your wall area, takes the percentage your chosen level calls for, and divides by the coverage of one panel. A 16 by 14 room with 9 ft walls has 540 square feet of wall, so the balanced level asks for about 108 square feet of panel. On a product page the panel coverage is read from that product.
How much coverage do I actually need?+
Ten to fifteen percent of wall area tames flutter echo in a normal room, twenty to twenty five percent balances a living space or an office, and thirty five percent and up approaches studio control. More is not always better, because a room can be treated until it feels dead.
Where should the panels go?+
Start with the first-reflection points on the side walls, then the wall behind the listening position. Corners absorb the most low frequency, and a room with a hard floor benefits from ceiling coverage on top of the wall figure.
Do acoustic panels soundproof a room?+
No. Panels absorb reflections inside the room, which is what makes speech and music clearer. Stopping sound passing through a wall is a construction question rather than a panel question.
