By traffic rating first and appearance second. A product rated for a house will wear through in a corridor, and the failure shows as a visible path rather than as even ageing. Cleaning regime and repairability matter next, ahead of anything aesthetic.
Because a damaged square can be lifted and replaced in minutes without closing the floor or reseaming a room. Over a ten year life that difference usually outweighs the higher cost per square foot.
The colour runs the full depth of the tile rather than sitting in a printed surface layer. When the surface wears, the tile underneath is the same colour, so the wear does not read as damage. It is the reason it holds up in a lobby.
